Yolanda Rochelle Flowers

Yolanda Rochelle Robinson-Flowers comes from a humble, dedicated family of hard-working parents. She was born in 1961 in Birmingham, Alabama at The Holy Family Hospital. She grew up believing that Birmingham was a magical place, thus its name, "The Magic City." Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. McConnell Robinson, taught her and her siblings the ethics of hard work, the value of family, and the love of the Church and neighbors. Yolanda attended the Birmingham Public School System. She furthered her education upon graduation to attend Maryville College of Maryville, Tennessee. Realizing she had grown weary of school, she decided to marry a local young man by the name of Curtis Lynn Flowers, Sr and raise her family. So, she dropped out of school to do just that. Through their union, they birthed three children, twelve grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Yolanda worked in academia for 20 years beginning as a Reading Instructor for the Blount County school system. This opened up the door for her to help students at risk of failing school. She furthered her education beginning at Pellissippi State Technical Community College where she obtained her Associate of Arts degree in Speech. She later obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Audiology and her Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling at the University of Tennesee of Knoxville. These degrees allowed her to work with students and adults alike in transitioning them into the world of employment. She worked as a Speech, Language, Pathologist Assistant for the Blount County schools and Alcoa City schools systems, and she worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor under the Division of Rehabilitation Services for the State of Tennessee for many years. Upon returning to Birmingham, she worked in the Birmingham City School System from 2016 to 2019 as a full-time Substitute Teacher.
