Steven Waits
General Information
Steven Waits serves as the Place 5 Council Member for the City of Oxford and the president pro-tempore. Encompass Health employs him. Waits has served on the council since 2004. Since his time in office, he believes the greatest accomplishment serving the citizens of Oxford has been the construction of new school facilities, improvement of public safety through the establishment of a full-time fire department, improved police facilities, and staffing at the new East Alabama Metro Crime Center, improvement of the quality of life through the Oxford Performing Arts Center, construction of Choccolocco Park, and upgrades to existing facilities. Waits believes that the most important issues to Oxford are keeping public safety a priority, supporting our school system, and remaining good stewards of our money.
Waits is a 1991 graduate of Oxford High School. He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from Jacksonville State University.
Waits has been involved in many civic and non-profit organizations, including the Jacksonville State University Annual Fund Board, Civitan, Oxford Baseball for Youth, and Oxford Parks and Recreation Board. He is the husband to Kala and father to Jared (Courtney) and Carlee (Hunter). He is a member of Edgewood Church.
