Bill Summary
Under existing law, a candidate for appointment to the position of State Superintendent of Education is required to be of good moral character, with academic and professional education equivalent to graduation from a standard university or college, who is knowledgeable in school administration, and has training and experience sufficient to qualify him or her to perform the duties of the office
This bill would require a candidate for appointment to the position of State Superintendent of Education to possess qualifications similar to those required of a candidate for the position of county superintendent of education
To amend Section 16-4-1, Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the qualifications of the State Superintendent of Education; to require a candidate for appointment to hold an Alabama certificate in administration and supervision, have at least five years of experience in public school work, and provide proof to the State Board of Education of at least three years of successful educational experience during the five years next preceding appointment and a degree from a recognized four-year college or university.
