SB163 Alabama 2017 Session
Bill Summary
Under existing law, a proceeding to adjudicate the parentage of a child having no presumed, acknowledged, or adjudicated father may be commenced by the mother of the child for the purposes of obtaining support anytime before the child reaches age 19
Under existing law, a person claiming to be the father of a child may acknowledge paternity and provide notice of intent to claim paternity by placing his name on the state putative father registry either before the child's birth or within 30 days after birth
This bill would provide that if the mother of a child alleges a person to be the father of her child, either born or unborn, the alleged father is entitled to a paternity test. This bill would require the alleged father to prove that the mother, by spoken word or by publication, alleged him to be the father of her child
This bill would provide for payment of the cost of the test
To provide that if a woman alleges a person to be the father of her child, either born or unborn, the alleged father is entitled to a paternity test; to require proof that the mother, by word or publication, made the allegation; to provide for payment of the cost of the test; and to provide that this act shall not affect any right of a person to acknowledge paternity by placing his name on the putative father registry.
