SB214 Alabama 2013 Session
Bill Summary
Under existing law, the governing body of a municipality is required to hold regular meetings and the presiding officer may call special meetings. In addition, the presiding officer is required to call a special meeting when requested by the mayor or two council members. Existing law does not provide a procedure to cancel a meeting or give notice when it is known that a quorum will not be available
This bill would authorize the presiding officer of a municipal council to cancel a meeting if the presiding officer receives written notice that a quorum will not be present
To amend Section 11-43-50, Code of Alabama 1975, relating to meetings of a municipal governing body with a Mayor/Council form of government; to authorize the presiding officer to cancel a meeting and give notice that a meeting will not occur due to an anticipated lack of quorum.
