Bill Summary
Under existing law, state agencies that issue or renew licenses require all applicants for issuance or renewal of the license to provide the applicant's Social Security number to the agency and the agency records and maintains the Social Security number on file. Also, numerous agencies have implemented Internet license renewal processes and requiring the applicants to provide their Social Security number online for renewal of a license puts them at a high risk for identity theft
This bill would repeal the requirement for the Social Security number to be provided by applicants for renewal of the license
To amend Section 30-3-194 of the Code of Alabama 1975, relating to providing the Social Security number for issuance or renewal of licenses; to repeal the requirement for providing the Social Security number for license renewal.
